Do I need a smart meter to join?
No, you do not need a smart meter to join.

What happens after I switch? Do I need to do anything?
No, we will take care of the switching process for you. During this time, you will receive a welcome email with information about your plan.

Will I be disconnected, or will my electricity be interrupted during the switching process?
The switching process can take between 10-15 working days, and your electricity will not be disconnected once you have been transferred to us.If you are moving to a new home, your power may be disconnected. Please contact us to organise a reconnection.

Switching is easy and free! Once you have agreed to switch to Black Box Power, then we take care of the process for you.

Does it cost to change retailers?
Switching to Black Box Power is easy and free! However, your current retailer may have locked you into a contract with early termination fees so be sure to ask our Customer Care Team when you call how to deal with this issue. Remember with Black Box Power we offer no long term contracts, so if you wish to leave for any reason, you can.

Black Box Power supply electricity and gas across New Zealand.

Is Black Box Power a generator?
No, we are a retailer and do not generate our own electricity.

I am building a new house and need to arrange electricity. How do I do that?

Do I have to do a credit check?
Yes, we do require a standard credit check to sign up to electricity. For us to process a credit check, you must have a valid New Zealand drivers’ license or a valid passport, this could be a New Zealand or an international passport.
If you wish to sign up and use your passport for your credit check, please note we will request to have you send through a copy of your passport to our customer care team.

Am I locked into a long term contract?
We offer no long term contracts. If you need to leave, you can.
If you have received a joining credit, this may be added to your final bill if you leave within the first 12 months.

How long does it take to switch electricity providers?
It can take up to 10 working days to switch your electricity to Black Box Power. We will take care of the switching process for you and your power will not be turned off during the switching process.

Can I cancel if I change my mind?
Absolutely. You can freely terminate at any time.
